Drawing Portraits With Colored Pencils

With a trajectory of more than 30 years as a graphic designer and debuting as a draftsman since he learned to hold a pencil, Néstor Canavarro has earned the title of master of realistic drawing with colored pencils. Throughout his career he has published his works in fields as diverse as publishing, advertising and the textile industry; nowadays he observes the world and its details and shapes them on paper using a technique that, although it imitates photography, carries it out in a much more traditional way.

In this course, Néstor will teach you how to use colored pencils to draw hyperrealistic portraits with a high degree of detail. You will discover some technical aspects of this type of illustration, learning to work with different materials and application modes, paying special attention to each volume, light and shadow that is reflected in the human anatomy.

You will start knowing the work of Néstor, who will also tell you about his influences and the artists that inspire him most.

Then he will talk about the materials, the types of pencils and the paper. It will make you an introduction to the technique of illustration with colored pencils, explaining the way in which he usually applies it to obtain different results.

It will teach you to face the typical shapes and folds of the face, to observe each of those parts to learn to replicate them with complete fidelity and detail on paper. Néstor will explain how to draw the set of elements that make up a face: the lips, eyes, skin, hair ... respecting and mitando the texture of each one of them.

Finally, applying everything learned during the lessons, you will face your first realistic portrait complete with colored pencils. Néstor has decided to take inspiration from a photo of Robert De Niro, but you can choose the image of the person you feel most comfortable portraying.

Taking a photograph as a reference, you will make a realistic portrait using only colored pencils.

Illustrators, draughtsmen, designers and in general, anyone interested in developing their style of drawing towards a more realistic technique.

It is advisable to have previous knowledge of drawing. With regard to the materials, you will need colored pencils, fine grain drawing paper of at least 150g, bread crumb rubber and graphite pencil.
